Nikon D300 (Updated)

Engadget is predicting that a new set of professional grade DSLRs are expected from Nikon perhaps as soon as tomorrow. The new bodies, D300 and D3, presumably replace the D200, and D2 series, and add new features such as the potentially battery sucking live LCD display, and up to 11 FPS on the D3 (8 possible on the D300).

EDIT: It appears that Nikon has infact released two new cameras and a bunch of new lenses. The D3 and the D300 have been introduced and look incredible. Also introduced (in the D3), is a new full frame sensor, which is capable of adapting to the DX style lenses seemlessly. Those users who have invested a ton to outfit their D2's with DX lenses aren't out of luck, but you will only get 5.1 megapixels instead of the 12.1 of the full size FX sensor. Great to see that Nikon didn't render the DX lenses entirely useless though.

The Nikon D40 is apparently popular enough for it's own photography blog. Seems like a good source of information for those [D40 users who might have been screwed out of 4MP with the introduction of the "X" model.... I mean] proud owners of this camera.

Trash the Dress Videos

There seem to be a ton of videos on YouTube regarding the trash the dress phenomenon. I can't imagine all of them are very interesting unless you like watching photoshoots. Maybe there is some techniques to pick up from watching?

Photo Sharing Sites Compared

If you still don't have a photo sharing account on some Flickr like website, I urge you to take a look at this article, Web Photo Sharing Faceoff, before you go and sign up for one. Then you'll be able to figure out what site suits your needs, and not just jump on the Flickrwagon, like everyone else. Note: I'm a Flickr user, I just hate to see innovative sites come up and struggle to attract users because of what they are. However, this list seems to imply it might be possible. Of note, Zoto, which has the second worst Alexa rating, but second most features, behind only Flickr whose feature set seems to be the comparison.

JPG Mag Happenings

With issue 11 on newstands and issue 12 set to drop soon, JPG Mag keeps going at full throttle. Two new themes are up for issue 13 submissions: Passport (travel photography off the beaten path) and Gravity Powered (capturing the action of extreme sports). Both themes should provide amazing submissions because they are both things that lots of people photograph. I can't wait to get some time to look through them, and of course to see issue 13's actual selections when it comes in the mail.

Not only do they seem to constantly be working on gathering new content and slicing and dicing it up to lay it out in a magazine, they've also been busy making changes to the website. It wouldn't be a community site if you couldn't add comments to other people's images, but now you can track your activity as well. From a post entitled See Who Said What Where:

"Last night we launched some new features to help keep track of your contacts and activity on your photos. On the front page, you can now see the latest photos and stories from your contacts. This replaces the strip of your photos that have recently been made favorites, but don't fret. The new Activity page shows you not only that, but people who have recently made you a contact, and comments you've recently received on your photos and made on the photos of others."

It makes me wonder if JPG Mag is trying to become the next Flickr. I don't see how this could happen with the one photo per theme, but if you think of themes as moderated groups on Flickr... Anyway, I'm glad to see that JPG Mag keeps growing, and I can't wait to see what more the future brings.
